Many cultures across the world are losing sight of the history of marriage. Marriage is frequently regarded nowadays as an outmoded institution that has outlived its usefulness. According to a recent poll, people are growing less connected to marriage as an institution. The proportion of people who feel marriage enhances the lives of children and families and is essential for developing good families has somewhat declined. People, on the other hand, continue to see marriage favorably. The number of people who feel marriage is archaic and out of date has grown in recent years. Nonetheless, 10 Biblical Reasons For Marriage that are still applicable today.
God initially created marriage in the order of creation, providing it as an immutable foundation for human life. Marriage exists so that mankind might serve God through its offspring, loyal intimacy, and properly organized sexual interactions. This relationship is modeled after the union of God with his bride, Christ with his church. Husbands are to exercise self-sacrificial headship in marriage, while wives are to maintain a posture of godly submission to their husbands. This institution foreshadows Christ’s return to claim his wife, making marriage a live symbol of the gospel of grace.

The Bible’s view of marriage
Contrary to common assumption, marriage is not a man-made concept. When God created the first man in His image, He gave him everything he needed to be happy. Because God felt that a man should not be alone, He created a woman from Adam’s rib and gave her to him. The first marriage occurred when God created Eve to supplement the needs of man. When they make a covenant, they become one flesh. When they became one, they forged an unbreakable bond that would last a lifetime. In Matthew 19:5-6, a man is characterized as abandoning his parents and becoming one flesh with his wife. The verse continues by stating that no one should separate what God has put together.
God established the institution of marriage before the government or the church. It was the first social organization in the world. Humanity is designed to operate best when it is healthyly linked to others. According to God’s plan, the aim of marriage is to create strong families. Another purpose of marriage is to create a secure family environment for children to grow and thrive in. According to 2 Corinthians 6:14, you should not be yoked with unbelievers because what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? The best marriage is one between two Christians who are capable of raising virtuous children.
The Bible does not require that all Christians marry. Paul advised being unmarried in order to devote more time to God’s service. In 1 Corinthians 7:7-9, Paul believes it’s lovely to be single. Even still, if you can’t control yourself, you should marry since being married is preferable to being devoured by passion. There is nothing wrong with folks who do not feel obligated to marry. Single individuals can live happy lives while receiving emotional support from friends and relatives. Some people, though, still want to marry. Marriage gives you a lifetime friend on whom you may rely for the rest of your days. In the Bible, there are a few biblical reasons for marriage, and some of them are still relevant today.
10 biblical reasons for marriage That is Still Valid Today
1. Partnership
According to Genesis 2:18, it is not desirable for man to be alone, and God will give him with a suitable partner. When you marry, you get a life companion. Whatever happens, you will always have someone to lean on. God gave Adam Eve so that he would not have to face life alone. The first two chapters of Genesis demonstrate how God created humans for two kinds of relationships: one with God and one with one another. According to the Bible, everyone requires someone. When you marry that particular someone, you make a lifelong commitment to them.
2.Protection and Security
God created marriage not just for the goal of establishing a relationship, but also so that Adam could protect Eve. Because most people see women as the weaker of the two, God made man to be the more sensible of the two. The responsibility of the male is to advise and protect his wife from self-destructive conduct and incorrect policies. Because the wife is more conscious of her feelings, she may be more vulnerable to harm if she is not protected by her husband. This sentiment may look antiquated, yet it is still relevant in today’s world.
A contemporary woman recognizes that she may make her own decisions, but she also understands that her partner will defend her if required. She want a guy she can rely on to protect and care for her. Having a woman, on the other hand, helps the guy since she completes him.
3. Reproduction
According to Genesis 1:28, a married couple should be fruitful and multiply. God created marriage in order for godly children to be produced and reared by married couples. According to Malachi 2:15, God loves godly kids, thus men should be faithful to their spouses. Many people marry in order to have children and build a family. Marriage gives people the opportunity to start anew and raise their children the way they want. By marrying and having children, you may bring life into the world and educate your children so that they might go out into the world and share God’s Word.
4. Performance
As the saying goes, if you want to go swiftly, go alone. If you want to go far, travel together. The term “performance” in the Bible does not indicate that either the husband or wife must perform for the other. Instead, it suggests that God made Eve because Adam needed a friend. Even God knew that two is better than one and that their efforts will be more favorably rewarded. A group of two like-minded people may do more in life than a single one. According to Ecclesiastes 4:9, the relationship is valuable since the other is available to lift them up if one stumbles.
5. Enjoyment
Marriage should be revered by everybody, according to Hebrews 13:4, and the marriage bed should be pure. Those who indulge in sexual behavior prior to marriage will be condemned, according to God. God created marriage so that we might enjoy physical relationships while still obeying God’s purpose. Despite the fact that it is unusual in modern times, some people continue to refrain from sex until they are married. Abstaining from sex until you’re married before being married enables you to cleanse your mind and fully get to know your companion. You and your spouse can participate in physical actions after married since you and your partner are one flesh.
6. A Biblical benefit of marriage is companionship, relationship, or lack of loneliness.
“It is not good for a man to be alone,” declared the Lord God. “I’ll get him a decent helper.” Genesis 2:18 (NASB)
As a result, God looked over all of creation and determined that humans needed company. When God created Eve, he intended her to be Adam’s perfect partner, helpmeet, and companion.
God did not gaze over creation and say that a man must have a soul-deep love affair in order to be whole. God did not send Adam to meet Eve on a white horse. A connection was one of the original Biblical motives for marriage. And this is consistent with God’s relationship-centered nature. Isn’t that correct?
God wishes to establish a relationship with you. He created a need for closeness in men and women in order to lead us back to Him. Once again, the Biblical Purpose of Marriage is about God rather than ourselves.

7. Marriage helps in the improvement of our personality.
Throughout the Bible, we are exhorted to put off our old fleshly selves and put on the new man. God is continuously chiseling away at our character, and if you’re married, the chisel He usually uses is your spouse.
When your spouse touches you in the wrong areas, it shows pride, selfishness, and a refusal to forgive. God wishes to shape and develop all elements of our personalities to reflect His image.
You’ve been assigned the responsibility of becoming a noble wife.
“A nice woman is a crown for her husband, but a dishonorable wife is rottenness in his bones.” Proverbs 12:4 (NASB)
“Who knows where to get a great wife?” For she is considerably more valuable than pearls.” Proverbs 31:10 (NASB)
If you let Him, God will use your marriage to reveal places in your life that He is striving to sanctify.
Cultural love is a transient sensation, and if your marriage is entirely based on it, you’re doomed. In the Bible, love is a choice. We get a picture of Biblical Love in 1 Corinthians 13 (we did a word study… CLICK HERE TO TWEET
8. Marriage changes you into a holy person.
As we can see, God designed marriage for a multitude of wonderful reasons, including friendship, sexual intimacy, reproduction, security, and support, among others. However, God is directing our attention back to Himself in the middle of this conversation. Oh, I did somewhat change it, didn’t I?
Marriage points the lost world to God by demonstrating how God interacts with humans. Marriage, on the other hand, points husband and wife to God. Your partner will never be able to meet all of your expectations, longings, or desires.
Let me say it again.
Your partner will never be able to meet all of your needs, fulfill all of your wishes, or meet all of your expectations. They were never intended to be used in this manner. Only God can actually provide you with everything you need.
And you have a choice when it comes to unfulfilled longings, disappointed aspirations, or unmet requirements. Turn to God for the needs that only He can truly supply, or turn away and wallow in misery.
This is a judgement-free zone. I’ve tried both methods. For years, I lived in anguish, bitterness, and contempt, blaming my spouse for all of my problems and unfulfilled expectations.
Then God began to show me how each unfulfilled longing was supposed to draw me to Him. One of the Biblical benefits of marriage is that it teaches me to turn to God anytime I am dissatisfied, allowing Him to supply my needs, reveal my sin, refine my soul, and make me more holy.
This concept is wonderfully encapsulated by a marriage remark from Gary Thomas’s book Sacred Marriage!
9 Marriage gives us the power to pray.
I don’t know about you, but I’m brought to my knees when it comes to marriage. Through those times of prayer, God has taught me how to pray. Isn’t it insane? Through prayer, I learnt how to pray. I learned more about God’s character, trustworthiness, and power as I prayed and God replied, which stimulated my prayer life even more.
Praying with others taught me to pray, and I would never have gone to others if it hadn’t been for my marital troubles. During those trying times, I learnt the value of strategic prayer — war room prayers for my marriage became a way of life for me. Some Bible verses that inspire me to return to God on a regular basis – you might even call them “Bible verses to rescue marriage” – are as follows:
“In order to be cured, confess your faults to one another and pray for one another.” A good man’s powerful prayer may accomplish a great deal.” James 5:16 (NASB)
That one is based on the notion that marriage cleanses us. For my prayer practice to be effective, I needed to address my sin. A life lived with a limited sin list results in effective strategic prayer!
“Let us then come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to assist in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 NASB)
You may publicly pray to God for your marriage, and He will help you in your time of need!
10.Make the best decision for yourself.
Some of the most prevalent reasons people marry include biblical truths that are still relevant today. Although the public’s idea of marriage is fleeting, don’t let that stop you from married if you so choose. Marriage is a beautiful institution that you should take seriously. Although the biblical grounds for marriage are strong, you must ultimately listen to your heart and God. If you’re in a relationship and God instructs you to marry them, you should do so. If you’re still waiting for God to speak, persevere until you do. You should not feel obligated to marry because others in your circle are or because your family is pressing you to. Continue to follow your heart and God; they will never let you down.
